FINAL GRADE

What do I need on the final?

Assumes only the final exam remains.

Find my final exam weight
Calculated final weightFind my final exam weight
How it works
  1. Enter your current grade before the final and the course grade you want.
  2. Enter the final exam’s share of the course grade. The exam must be the only graded part still to come.
  3. Calculate the minimum score, then try an assumed exam score to see its estimated course grade.

Example

With an 84% current grade, an 85% target, and a final worth 25%, the minimum needed is 88%. A 90% final would make the estimated course grade 85.5%.

Frequently asked questions

How is the required final score calculated?

Required final = (target course grade − current grade × (1 − final weight)) ÷ final weight. For 84%, 85%, and 25%, that is (85 − 84 × 0.75) ÷ 0.25 = 88%.

What if I still have homework or another exam left?

This shortcut assumes the final is the only remaining graded part. If other work is unfinished, its scores and weights can change the result, so this estimate may not describe your final course grade.

What if the required score is over 100%, or the final has no weight?

A result over 100% means the target cannot be reached under these inputs; the calculator also shows the highest possible course grade. The final weight must be greater than 0% and no more than 100%.
